"F" for me these days stands for FLU. On my way home from work one Thursday afternoon I really felt horrible, I felt really cold, my nose was wet and itchy, I had a terrible headache and by then, any minute I felt like I'm going to collapse. I managed to get home safely though, I was absent from work the following day and I was really unproductive at home, I slept for mostly the entire day because my body is aching. What is flu by the way? Here it goes...Influenza, commonly referred to as the flu, is an infectious disease caused by RNA viruses of the family Orthomyxoviridae (the influenza viruses), that affects birds and mammals.
What are the symptons? The most common symptoms of the disease are chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness/fatigue and general discomfort. Maybe I was a very unlucky candidate for I got all of them (Ugh!!!) My elder son kept on checking on me that day, he said he wanted to wait until I could get out of bed and my younger son was sad 'coz I wasn't able to fetch him at my parent's home. Now, what to do to get rid of the flu? Here's a list of what I did:
- Stay away from large crowds. That's why I stayed home instead of pretending to be superhero and going to work.
- Rest and clear your mind of stressful stuff. I think of nice things like I'll get well soon because my boys and I have a lot of playing to do. I don't think of work (ehem).
- I drank a lot of fluids. Fruit juices (canned or bottled ones not the powdered drinks but also check the sugar content), squeezed fruit juices; I'm lucky this is available that time (calamansi or dalandan squeeze them up add a little sugar to reduce the sour taste, add water and you have it) and ofcourse the best cure lots and lots of water.
The following day I felt better. I hope this has been a nice read for those of you who just got the flu or knows anyone who has it. I forgot to add by the way that if it's worse (hope not!) one must see a doctor.Whew! Goodbye "F"
